Dance Academy Musicians

Vocal - Smt. Bama Visveswaran is a much sought after musician for South Indian Classical Dance. A graduate from Madras University, Bama Visveswaran started training in South Indian Classical Music at the age of 10 under her father Kadavasal Sri K.S. Ramachandran and had performed in India and abroad. Her natural flair for the arts has flourished under the training and guidance of the doyens of the music field, Smt. Rukmani Rajagopalan, Tanjore Sri S. Kalyanaraman and Dr. M. L. Vasanthakumari. She has the honor of accompanying eminent artistes of the dance field like Padmasri Adyar K. Lakshmanan, Dr. Vyjayanthimala Bali and   Ms. Lakshmi Viswanathan.

Mridangam - Sri Mayuram J. Shankar, a disciple of Kumbakonam M. Rajappa Iyer, hails from a family of musicians.  Since 1981, he has been accompanying Bharatanatyam performances and is a much sought after artist . He is an A graded artist in All India Radio. He has given lecture demonstrations on Mirudhangam in India and abroad.  He has participated in the Festival of India in Russia and France and recently toured South Africa for dance recitals organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations. He received the Best Accompanying Artist Award for 2011 awarded to him by the VDS Arts Academy. and 'Mayura Muzhavisai Ilavel' award from Mayuranatha Swamy Temple, last year. He runs his own school in Chennai called the 'Laya Kalaa laya'. He has accompanied many Bharatanatyam artistes like Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, Ms. Lakshmi Viswanathan, and Padmashri. Smt. Chitra Visweswaran.

Flute - Sri. P. Venkataramana is a seasoned flute accompanist for Bharatanatyam dance, and has pursued this career for over twenty years. He was trained under his father, Sri P. Vishwanatha Rao and later under Dr. P. Sita Ram. He is an A-graded artist and has given several solo performances at various cultural centers in Chennai.  He has composed music for three full length dance productions for dancer Himajaa Raamcharan, namely 'Easwara Darisanam', ' Shakthi Prabhaavam', and Parandaama Vaibhavam', which were well received by Chennai audience. He has accompanied eminent artists like Dr. Vyjayanthimala Bali, Padmashri Adayar K. Lakshmanan and Uduppi Shri Lakshmi Naarayanan in their performances and productions. Some of the awards conferred upon him are ’Nadaswaroopa Maamani' by Sadguru Thyagabrahma Isaipani Mandram and most recently, in 2023, ‘ Isai Chemmal’ by Theiveega Iyal Isai Mandram, Chennai and ‘Bharatha Venu Nipuna’ by Bharatham Academy of Dance, Chennai.

Veena - Kalaimamani Mudikondan Sri. S. N. Ramesh, born in a family with a musical tradition, commenced his Veena training at the age of nine from his father Sri. S. Narayanaswamy Iyer, a senior disciple of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Mudikondan Sri.  Venkatrama Iyer.  Ramesh is also a talented vocalist besides being a vainika. Ramesh has been performing extensively since 1985 in India, Europe, the United States, Australia and other countries.  He has received several awards and has also been honored as the Asthana Vidwan of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam and Sringeri Sri Sharada Peetam by their holiness.  He is a top ‘A’ Grade Artist of All India Radio, Chennai and performs frequently on air, Dhoor Darshan, and other satellite channels. He is an artist in Vadhya Lahari, an instrumental ensemble with Kalaimamani Kumari. A. Kanyakumari and Mambalam Sri. M. K. S. Shiva. Several titles have been conferred upon him namely, 'Nada Kala Nipuna', Sangeetha Kala Bharathi' and 'Veena Nadhamani'. Recently, he was also honored with the prestigious 'K.S. Narayanaswamy Centenary Award' by 'Shanmukha Nanda Sabha', Mumbai. Another recent award 'Gandarva Nipuna' was conferred upon him by the Association of Bharatanatyam artistes of India. In 2019, the most esteemed title 'Kalaimamani' was conferred upon him by the Government of Tamilnadu, India. Most recently, he received the D K Pattammal award of excellence from Brahma Gana sabha and the distinguished title ‘Padma Vainika Bhushan’.
